What To Know:
Floriani Heat N Sta Fleece® is a unique and versatile fusible fleece that adds soft dimension and structure to embroidery and quilting projects. Because it is fusible, it allows for complete creative freedom—stitching and quilting can be as simple or as random as you desire without the need for traditional quilting to hold the fibers in place.
Preparing Your Fabric & Fusible Fleece
For best results, proper preparation is key.
If your fabric has the potential to shrink, it is recommended to pre-wash and pre-shrink before fusing.
To pre-shrink Floriani Heat N Sta Fleece®, gently steam the non-fusible side just before pressing it onto the fabric.
Creative Tip:
If you’re aiming for an antiqued or vintage-style quilt, skip pre-washing both the fabric and the fusible fleece. When washed later in warm water, the fabric will naturally draw in around the fused fleece, creating a beautifully textured, quilted appearance. This technique works especially well with redwork designs on premium quilting cottons.
Fusing Heat N Sta Fleece® to Fabric
Place the shiny, textured fusible side of Heat N Sta Fleece® against the wrong side of the fabric.
Using a low heat setting on your iron or press, fuse the fleece into place. Steam is not required but will not harm the fleece if used.
Always allow the iron to touch the fabric only, not the fleece. Use a press cloth if needed.
Important Notes:
Steam may cause slight shrinkage in both the fleece and fabric. If shrinkage is not desired, be sure to pre-shrink materials before fusing.
As with traditional quilt batting, it is recommended to cut Heat N Sta Fleece® at least one inch larger than your fabric piece, then trim to size once fused.
Because iron temperatures vary, begin at a lower heat setting and gradually increase until a secure bond is achieved.
