September Sew Fun and More!
Share
I can't believe how fast this year has flown by and we'll be having our Christmas parties and drawing for the UFO grand prizes before you know it! Of course, we aren't just sitting around waiting for December. There is still a lot going on at RMSV before then. Next up is September Sew Fun.
First of all, though, we want to thank all of you who answered the Sew Fun survey we handed out a couple of months ago. We really appreciate the feedback, and are so very happy with such comments as:
"Really enjoy the fun dedicated me time! I have learned a lot and found many new ways to use my hobby."
" I really enjoy coming & seeing old friends and new ideas that are presented."
"Sew Fun is one of the highlights of my month! Thanks!"
" I really like that there is a variety of presenters – some I identify with a ton, others who prefer projects I wouldn’t usually choose—>helps me think outside the box."
" You all do a great job that demonstrates careful/advance planning. Keep up the monthly demos. You are having fun, and it shows!"
"Thank you for 10 years – keep them coming!"
We've taken many of your suggestions to heart and hope to make Sew Fun even better with Malory at the helm as the Sew Fun Coordinator. Expect to see more product available, more demos, and variety of projects.
Here's a sneak peek at a couple of the projects our Sew Fun presenter will be sharing next week.
Add a modern flair to your Christmas decorations with this coordinating tree mini quilt, wreath, wall hanging, and table runner by Sew Kind of Wonderful. Use the Quick Curve Mini Ruler, sold separately, and cut curves easily. Use this ruler and reduce cutting and sewing time. The pattern book includes step-by-step instructions for using the QCR tool, sewing the curves, and trimming the blocks for perfect alignment.
Finished sizes for the different projects are approximate: Wreath 21.5 in., Tree Mini Quilt 21 in. x 42 in., Table Runner 12 in. x 67 in., and Wall Hanging 32 in. x 32 in.
Holly is a bag designed for beginner bag makers and sewists! Its easy construction and chic look makes it a fun project for experienced sewists as well. This bag is a classic style hobo bag, meant to be loved and used everyday. Use a fabric that doesn't fray for the contrast such as cork, vinyl, Kraft-tex, or leather. The finished size of this bag is 10" wide at base, 11" high, and 4½" deep.
This is a Learn as you Sew™ Pattern! You’ll learn essential tips and techniques about sewing bags as you create this project. The instructions take you step-by-step, so you’ll produce a professional looking bag. Included are detailed graphics to help make the written directions easier to understand. Also included are many sewing techniques and tips to help you achieve a quality, finished project. This pattern is designed to help you learn and expand your sewing skills!
At an additional cost, a full-length video is available for this pattern! Click here for the video!
We recommend using fabric that doesn’t fray for the contrast such as cork, vinyl, kraft-tex, or leather because some of the pieces are left as a raw edge. Quilting cotton can be used for the lining. This bag has a more professional, long-lasting finish if the recommended fabrics are used.
Look at some of the beautiful variations of this bag. Let your imagination run wild!
To see what else we have in store for you this month, be sure to attend one of our September Sew Fun sessions.
With multiple sessions at day at each of our locations, how can you miss it? We hope you can join us at one of these times:

As always, we hope you’ll bring one of your “UFOs” you’ve finished to “show and tell.” Click here to see some of last month’s Show and Tell projects. You all are so talented, I can’t wait to see what this month brings!
Have you signed up to participate in our National Sewing Month Jelly Roll Race on September 22? Each store is having a race on the same day. Who can sew the fastest? We'll find out on the 22nd who is the Jelly Roll Champion at each store, and then compare times across all RMSV stores and crown an overall winner. For rules and supplies needed, and to join the race please register here for the event at your store: Arvada; Aurora; Colorado Springs; Littleton. Also, check out our blog, Ready, Set, Sew! A Jelly Roll Race at Rocky Mountain’s Colorado Springs Store, on a previous race held at Colorado Springs for more information.
We have stocked up on some beautiful jelly rolls (aka pinwheels) at each store, and are offering them at a discount. Of course, you can bring your own, but we have a nice selection from Benartex at a great sale price. In addition, if you buy your jelly roll from us, we’ll give you a RMSV gift card for $20 on race day to offset the cost of the event.
It’s National Sewing month! Do you have a special place to sew? A She Shed or a Sewing room? We want to see it (even if it’s your dinning room table)! Post a picture on your Instagram account with the hashtags #RMSVwhereisew and #rockymountainsewingandvacuum. On October 15, we’ll randomly pick one of the pictures to win a $100 RMSV gift card, to help you create your dream sewing space. You can also post to our Facebook page or here, and we'll make sure you get entered into the drawing. Please be sure to include the hashtags when you post.
Here's a few photos of my messy space! I am running out of room, though. How do you organize all your "stuff"?
