Good. Making your own piping
Share
A simple way to add pizzazz to almost any sewing project is to add piping. Since finding premade piping in the color you want is frequently difficult, making your own is a great choice, and very simple to do. You will need your fabric in the desired color/pattern, cord of the desired thickness, and a zipper or piping foot for your sewing machine. Cording in various widths can be found in the drapery department of your fabric store. For very fine piping, you can even use yarn.
First, cut strips of your fabric on the bias at 1 1/4" wide. All cutting mats have guide lines at 45 degrees, and that is what you should use. If you are using heavy cord, as for an upholstery project, cut them a bit wider. Join your fabric strips to make a length sufficient for your project, plus a little extra. Fold the strip in half across the width, with the cording inside against the fold, and sew as close to the cording as you can. Continue for the length of your strip to produce your piping. That's all there is to it!
Next lesson: how to apply the piping you have just made.
