Good (and good writing). Beyond Our Limitations
Share
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is to look beyond our own limitations. To choose a sewing project outside of our comfort level, to leave behind what we think we know about our skill set, to step outside of our pre-conceived boundaries. So often we limit ourselves in our creativity when we should be limitless.
Take a moment and think about that one sewing project that was outside of your skill set. The project you look at now and shake your head ruefully, muttering, "if only I knew then, what I know now" and recognize the truth, deep inside where your creative spirit resides, that you know more now because of what you didn't know then.
Whatever the project, at some point you heard a voice saying "yes, you can" and you believed; you stepped outside of who you thought you were, held on tightly to your sewing machine, and jumped. And while the project may have taken more energy, more brain cells, and more time with a seam ripper than anyone could conceive as even being humanly possible, when you look back, there is pride in your accomplishment. You did this. You. Did. This. Yes, there are flaws; there always will be. Yes, there are things you could have been done better; again, there always will be.
Remember, creative growth is not just about perfecting what is already known, it's about stepping outside of what you know you can do, into the unknown, and believing in yourself.
Next time you see a project and think "no I can't" listen to your creative voice saying just the opposite. It's there, waiting to be heard. Stretch yourself. Make mistakes. You did it once; you can do it again. Make it a habit to step outside the boundaries of what is safe, of what you know.
Listen to your creative voice and give yourself permission to be limitless.
Listen. Don't hesitate. Jump.
