Ok. Our Chicken Noodle Soup
Share
We are reminded this month of a difficult anniversary, that of 9/11, and the resulting loss of control and our safe place in the world. To many it may seem a stretch, but to those of us who sew, we know a deep and genuine source of comfort during disturbing times...beyond the meatloaf and the chicken noodle soup.
It is going to "that place" behind our sewing machine.
We know how quickly our mind escapes to the safety of our imagination and the needle and thread artistry that we control. With a button, a pedal, a lever or a dial, we find that "zone," which becomes our shelter. How quickly we can forget the tough global conditions of our times.
With each stitch we also transcend time and connect with our heritage. Sewing has been an art form throughout our human history....and all across the globe. Today we are lucky that it has become a creative choice, rather than a need. (Though it is also a ticket out of crisis still, in other global communities.) Our foremothers knew the peaceful satisfaction of holding a fabric in their hands. It was always creative expression, but more often it was driven by need and utility. They would envy our artistic choices of today!
Soooo. Find your zone, whether at a class, a kitchen table, or your sacred studio to journey through your safe place in the world where no one can bother you. Hold on tight...get your projects ready....it is also an election year.
It's a crazy world out there, as election coverage reminds us daily. Get your tools together...your fabrics, your threads, your skills and expertise and sparkle up your sewing machine. Stitch your way through to your own peaceful, carefree existence. It is literally at your finger tips.
.....Soup's on!
