The Top-Rated Sewing Machines for 2025

The Five Best Sewing Machines

In our reviews, we have tried to score the live models in our warehouse for several of the most important areas of note, including:

  • Stitch quality
  • Throat comfort
  • Ease of use
  • Upkeep costs and maintenance needs
  • General feel

We have also taken a look at some of the smart tech on show in these sewing machine reviews, as a few items surprised us when we first heard about them.

1. Bernina 770 QE Plus

Best for:

  • Serious quilters
  • Advanced sewists
  • Ambitious beginners

As one of the more advanced sewing machines in our repertoire, the 770 QE Plus also offered the smoothest experience moment-to-moment. The spacious harp and dual feed walked layers evenly, allowing even king-sized quilts to glide during the sewing process.

When our staff discussed the machine beforehand, one of the things we expected to be unimpressed about was the jumbo bobbin. Instead, it turns out that stitching for longer without having to reload made a huge difference to our peace of mind while sewing. We understand that changing bobbins can be one of the big frustrations for new sewers, especially those without many bobbins primed, so with that in mind, this might be one of the best sewing machines for beginners at the moment.

During our experience with this machine, we were also delighted with the built-in stitch regulator. It managed to steady everything at all times, making every stitch we made remain elegant, even during some of the tougher sections of our crafts. Those of us working on heirloom quilting patterns were especially pleased, with noticeable excitement while crafting a batch for the shop.

We also don’t have a negative word to say about the extra-large color touch screen on this device. Not only were we easily able to avoid it when planning and creating, but it also offered effortless use, with prominent symbols that were very obvious as to their meaning. Even those less capable with technology in our group were able to work out what they needed to do with minimal prompting.

2. Brother Innov-Ăs NQ3550W

Best for:

  • Large-format embroidery
  • Tech-friendly beginners
  • One-and-done centerpieces

If you’re on the search for a high-quality embroidery machine, this machine should be at the top of your list. We have long enjoyed the use of a simple, Wi-Fi machine that grabs patterns from the Internet or a local repository, but this one makes it even easier. Pushing designs from the Artspira app straight to the machine means we don’t even consider the option of USB sticks to get the job done, instead getting new patterns into the machine at the push of a button.

The staff here at Rocky Mountain Sewing were also spoiled by the roomy 6 x 10-inch hoop on this device. It allowed us to place bold and often complex centerpieces on the canvas we were embroidering without needing to re-hoop anywhere. It was so simple, and the freedom to do this encouraged us to take larger risks with more detailed patterns, much to the joy of everyone who watched and then wanted a Brother Innov-Ăs NQ3550W of their very own.

Another benefit we were impressed by was the height sensor. Every time a bulky seam appeared, the device detected it and adjusted its efforts accordingly. We tested it with complex bags and jackets and were surprised at how easily it handled them, without a single issue.

As is standard in advanced embroiderers these days, when bobbins started to run out, the thread sensors warned us and allowed us to get to them quickly, avoiding awkward pauses in our sewing process. We don’t know what we’d do without it anymore, and sometimes we would recommend modern machines for this reason alone.

3. Baby Lock Jubilant

Best for:

  • Everyday work
  • Light garments
  • Travelers and students

The light, 15-lb frame of the Jubilant is a key selling point of this powerful device. We were shocked at how powerful it was, despite the lack of weight, and we could imagine quickly slipping it into a cupboard or desk when not in use, making it perfect for those on the go, too.

When we got started at Rocky Mountain Sewing, customers initially thought the 80 curated stitches might have been overwhelming. However, the bright LCD screen helped them quickly pick what they needed, allowing them to get down to business.

Similarly, the cooler LEDs on the bottom of the device provided perfect illumination, so we could work without straining our eyes, even during late-night hemming.

If you have a lot of buttons to sew, the one-step buttonhole feature makes it easy by automatically sizing to fit your button for a professional finish. You can then expect a professional finish every time, impressing anyone watching.

Aside from that, the system has several easy-to-utilize features that make using the Baby Lock Jubilant a dream-come-true, and every output we chose when trying to make something led to a beautiful result. We would recommend it for anyone wanting something to take to university, or if they plan to be on the road for a long time while sewing.

4. Juki TL-2010Q

Best for:

  • High-speed straight-stitching
  • Bags and layered material
  • Experienced users not looking to decorate

There’s something to be said for a fully-aluminum arm and bed on a well-crafted sewing machine. It offers a very firm frame, which means the device can handle even the highest settings without complaint. The whole machine manages to absorb the vibrations, making the entire process as smooth as butter.

It’s not only the material that helps with this benefit, however. Every part of the Juki TL-2010Q attempts to create steady stitches and balanced threads, helping make every creation much more professional, even if it’s your first time using the machine. This control is even possible up to its highest speeds, which hit 1,500 SPM, which helps immensely with many forms of sewing.

When we tested this in-store, we were impressed at how this capability even extended to sewing on multiple layers of materials and with heavyweight options like denim and leather. It expanded the machine’s versatility and inspired us to take on more difficult projects. We didn’t need to swap out the machine as much and instead trusted the Juki TL-2010Q to handle even the challenging work.

Lastly, we were happy with the automatic thread trimmer. It did this to both the needle and bobbin simultaneously with a simple button push. It saved us plenty of time over a longer project, and we’d recommend using this feature at every opportunity.

5. Brother Innov-Ăs BQ2500

Best for:

  • Thick knits and multilayer projects
  • Buyers who want a wider table
  • Those looking for a bundle deal

We always love to see a good laser guide on our sewing machines. Of all the options to help keep a seam straight, it makes us feel like we’re using an advanced piece of technology every time. Not only that, but it also works perfectly well, and we have no complaints about its functionality.

We were also impressed with the compact MuVit dual-feed foot. It made it very easy to get fabrics into the machine from both top and bottom, and compared to many of the similar options out there, we found it very effective at pulling in thicker material, making this sewing machine the go-to when sewing many more robust pieces.

When we started sewing, we were also impressed by the LCD touch screen. Much like the Baby Lock Jubilant, above, the interface for many of these machines has come a long way in the past few years.

At Rocky Mountain Sewing, we also offer a Quilter’s Bundle Value purchase option. It contains hundreds of dollars’ worth of extras, including a wide table for the device itself.

It’s a valuable option for anyone looking to get more out of their purchase, especially with the added accessories included in the Quilter’s Bundle.
